Biography

Harry Febrian (PhD, RMIT) is a Lecturer in the School of Communication, Media and Journalism at the College of Liberal Arts, Wenzhou-Kean University. His current research focuses on the intersection of digital media, conflict, and religion in Southeast Asia.

He is the recipient of the Allison Sudradjat Prize (2018-2022), awarded to outstanding scholars and emerging leaders in strengthening Indonesia-Australia relations. He obtained a full doctoral scholarship under the Australia Awards Scholarship scheme from the Australian government. Previously, Harry received the Netherland Fellowship Programme (NFP) in 2016, which allowed him to study multimedia content production and violent extremism in Hilversum, Netherlands. 

 

He has over nine years of teaching experience in Indonesia, Taiwan, and Australia. Harry has been invited to lecture at the University of Melbourne, RMIT University, and Chinese Culture University. Previously, Harry was a full-time Lecturer in the Faculty of Communication Science, Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, Indonesia (2012-2018). He also served as Communication Research Coordinator in the same faculty from 2015 to 2017.

 

Prior to his academic career, he worked as a financial journalist in business and investment media, Kontan Daily, owned by Indonesia's largest media company, Kompas Gramedia Group. His writings have been published by various media outlets such as The Malaysian InsiderThe Jakarta PostSatu Harapan, Kompas.com and Hai Magazine.
