BIOGRAPHY

Ruth Gómez Sobrino is a global development professional with 16-year experience under EU projects and the UN system (UNESCO, UNDP, UNCDF, UNWTO and UN Women) in more than 30 nations and in all continents. She commenced her career in the Public Broadcasting Corporation in Spain and worked as correspondent in the MENA region where she shifted into international development first under the EU-based Anna Lindh Foundation and later under the UN framework. She has worked on diverse themes such as electoral processes, gender equality, sustainable Development and Climate Change and anti-corruption programmes.

Ruth combines her profile as a practitioner in diverse contexts including countries in conflict and in transition with a 8-year background as lecturer and researcher at higher academic institutions like Georgetown University, Malmö University, Shanghai International Studies University, and University of Comillas where she taught courses on Strategic and Corporate Communications, Public Diplomacy, Communications for Development, Media Ethics, Crisis Management and Disaster Risk, Disinformation Campaigns, among others. 

Some of her recent roles are Campaign Director for the EU Delegation to Sudan, Public Campaign Advisor for UNDP in Iran, Communications Specialist and Consultant for UN Women in Guatemala, PNG and several African countries, Early Warning Awareness Consultant for UNDP in Georgia and Knowledge Management Consultant for UNCDF in Senegal.
