Biography

Dr. Zahid Akter is a linguist and researcher with more than a decade of teaching experience in English and Linguistics across Australia, Bangladesh, China, and the United States. His fieldwork has taken him to Bangladesh and Malaysia, where he has documented and analyzed endangered minority languages. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and authored two books, including his recent monograph A Grammar of Pangkhua (De Gruyter Mouton, 2024). Dr. Akter has presented his research at major linguistic and applied linguistics conferences in Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia. He has been the recipient of numerous competitive fellowships and research grants, including the Franklin Research Grant from the American Philosophical Society, the Asian Scholarship Foundation Fellowship, the Linguistic Society of America Fellowship, the Global Oregon Graduate Award, the Firebird Foundation Fellowship, and the Language Legacies Grant. In addition to his research and teaching, he actively contributes to the profession as a reviewer, curriculum committee chair, and member of several international conference abstract review boards.

Morpho-Syntax, Language Typology, Historical Linguistics, Comparative Tibeto-Burman Linguistics.
